Hike to Laem Thain - Abandoned Resort

Hike to Laem Thain - Abandoned Resort

Fallen Trees on the hike up to Laem Thain Abandoned Resort
So after hearing about the abandoned resort, I decided to go and have an explore, the path is slightly sketchy in places, but manageable on foot, impossible on a bike. It took me around an hour to get from Gym and Fitness to the resort, and be sure to take plenty of water and possibly some food, as there is no chance of buying any once you start on the trail. Keep heading straight at the few turnings, and once you reach the fallen trees you are about 15-20 mins away from the resort. Not sure why it closed down, but looking at the few tripadvisor reviews, it would seem it did not have the best reputation, and I am guessing this, coupled with the sorry state of the road, meant it was uneconomical to keep up the maintenance? Anyway great for an explore, but there is a creepy feel to the resort, especially when the wind blow through it.

State of the path, some bits do get slightly sketchy

Not much left in the rooms, and most of the glass has broken

Further up the path, what looks like the old generators for the resort

    1. Hi JR, do you have any pictures of it in 2008? It would be fascinating to compare it then and now.

  2. I was there in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997,1999,2001, 2005. It was my favorite place in thailand and it makes me very sad to see your pics. This ist the facebook account from Puang: https://www.facebook.com/pingpong.laemthian
She is the daughter of the family who lived there. I guess she will have many pictures. The problem was, that they were on the other side of the island, far away from mae haad so it was difficult to get some tourists. There was no electricity on my first visit. no video in the evening, but many cool people from all over the world. I loved this place so much.
